Special Collections at the University of St Andrews have been running a weekly series: 52 Weeks of Fantastic Bindings, highlighting the gorgeous bindings of their rare books and manuscripts. I mentioned this great series before, but, now that the 52 Weeks are over, I think it’s time to mention it again! The series is worth a look for two reasons:
- It offers a great introduction to all kinds of bindings via the engaging stories of individual objects.
- It shows one of the ways in which blogging can be used to market special collections: the exhibition which builds up interest week by week.
I’m delighted to add that the series will be followed up by 52 Weeks of Illustrations! These should be really interesting too.
Thanks for the mention Alison! We’re so glad that the binding posts generated so much interest, and the next 52 weeks should be a much wider selection of material across the collections!
